Troubleshooting and FAQ

The preview is pink or invisible. The preview uses the kit's own shader, which works in the Built-in pipeline, URP and HDRP. If the preview is missing in a build, assign the kit's ghost materials (Runtime/Materials) on the Builder so the shader is included in the build.

The samples look dark in HDRP. HDRP needs the project in Linear colour space (Project Settings > Player > Other Settings), which HDRP's setup wizard sets for you. The samples' sun switches to daylight lux in HDRP by itself.

My piece is far too big or small. Make Buildable warns about unusual sizes and offers a one-click Scale for the piece (your model is not changed). Or fix the model's import Scale Factor (1 unit = 1 metre), then in the Piece Definition press Measure from Prefab.

"Can't build on a wall or other upright surface". You're aiming at the side of something. Aim at the floor or ground, or at an open edge to snap. If a tip says "aim closer to the open edge", a matching socket is just behind what you aim at.

My piece floats or sinks. Its footprint doesn't match the model. Press Measure from Prefab, or adjust the box with Edit in Scene.

The wall faces the wrong way. Press R to turn it. Walls face along their thinnest side.

In a build, doorways and windows are closed. The piece uses a Mesh collider and its model's Read/Write is off, so the build can't make the collider and uses boxes instead (the Console says so once). Open the kit window's Pieces tab and click Turn on Read/Write, or tick it in the model's import settings.

It never snaps. The piece needs sockets whose types fit the target's (check the Pieces tab for "no socket type"), and the aim must pass within the Builder's Snap Radius of an open socket. Add Build Diagnostics and turn on Gizmos to see the sockets.

"Overlaps Player". The piece would be placed inside your character. Step back.

The sample doesn't react to keys. Click the Game view to capture the mouse. Esc releases it.

Can I use my own input? Yes. The kit never reads input: call the Builder's commands. The sample's SampleBuildInput shows how.

Do I need the Input System package? No. The samples use it when it is installed and active, and Unity's old Input Manager otherwise.
